Rules:

1. Don’t be a jerk. Simple enough, right? After a certain point, jerks will be banned. That point will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

2. Chill. It’s only the internet, not life-and-death.

3. Help others. This forum is a cooperative effort, especially when it comes to learning the languages. Not everyone has the same learning curve. Not everyone is going to understand your style of learning or explaining. This is nobody’s fault.

4. Plagiarism is not allowed. If you do it, you’ve got one warning. After that, you have a week to move or edit the offending material. If you don’t, you will be permanently banned, and the owners of the material will be notified, if possible. If it’s severe enough, and you’ve done it on another community, they will be made aware.

5. Attempt to make posts coherent. Minimize netspeak, no 133t. If you have dyslexia, run spellcheck. This mostly applies to the English-language forums, but please make an effort with the other languages as well.

6. Harassment and stalking are prohibited. Period. You do it, you’re gone. You might have one warning, if it’s not very serious.

7. The rules, and how they are enforced, is determined by the admin. I.e., me. You can tell me you think I’m an idiot—and I might listen, if you have a point—but you do not overrule a final decision.

8. You may change your username once per year. If you have an alternate, please include the other name you use in your signature. Simple enough, and to avoid confusion. If you have some very, very compelling reason to change it more frequently, or less than a year after your registration or first change, make your case to me by PM.

9. Forums need a minimum number of users. To avoid having several unused forums (that require spambot patrol), I’m going to require at least five users to be interested in a forum before it is created. However, there may be exceptions—if three or four users are extremely active and interested in a language, I may create a forum for them. If a forum falls into disuse, it will be deleted. It may be recreated if enough users express interest again.

10. Inactive accounts may be deleted. I’ll post a notice when this is happening; if you’re a lurker, reply to that within a month and you won’t be deleted.

11. The Spam forum is for spam. Indicate work-safe or not. Spam does not go elsewhere. If you’re posting bawdy links or pictures, please indicate work-safe or not in an area where people will read it before they come across it. If it’s in the first post, put “not work-safe” in the title; if it’s a link, put it somewhere above. Fail to do this once: you’ll be warned and the post edited. Fail to do it twice: you’ll be blocked from posting for awhile. Three times; ban. Many of us work in places where employers can see our screens, and where we can lose our jobs over that kind of thing.

12. No Porn. If you want it, this isn’t your forum. You’ll be banned.

13. Advertising is OK, if minimal. You can advertise various things that you’ve either created, or are a part of (forums, stories, games, etc.). You can either put a discreet link in your signature, or you can post one thread every other month. You cannot post the same ad twice. You are not allowed to do this until your rank no longer reads ‘New’ (ie, until you have more than 25 posts).

Not reading these is not an excuse. They are subject to change, as new situations and ideas arise. If and when they do, I will post a announcement in the General Talk section of the site. Thank you for reading.
